Mag Work
Aside from my copywriting and editing work and two blogs - Writing Spark and Mental Health Notes - I’ve had my hand in online magazine writing, too. Until mid-2007 I wrote for Revolt-Media. Until 2006, I wrote for The Martini-Lounge.
Revolt-Media Music Magazine

The interviewing and reviewing skills I gained and polished while writing for this D.I.Y music magazine are priceless. Revolt-Media updates several times throughout the day, reaching an insanely wide audience of music lovers with “the latest in music news, reviews, interviews, and contests from your favorite bands.” Needless to say, as I writer I stayed busy.
I’ve always had a knack for writing unbiased and objective reviews. Rather than being generic and slamming a piece of literature (or, in this case, an album) because it “sucks,” or praising it because it’s “awesome,” I tell why it “sucks” or is “awesome.” Revolt-Media gave me a way to use my unbiased and objective writing talents.
Unfortunately, my album reviews are no longer archived at Revolt-Media (it has been a while, after all). I can provide copies of the album reviews upon request and, in the meantime, feel free to check out the band interviews and feature articles that are still housed at Revolt-Media.
The Martini-Lounge
Born in 2002, The Martini-Lounge was a non-profit women’s magazine/organization with the goal of “[producing] an alternative magazine for women that challenges beauty standards and re-defines the traditional role of women.” My work with The Martini-Lounge allowed me to write such articles as offering advice to the career-related woman and challenging popular consensus regarding the thoughts, beliefs, opinions, and behavior of today’s women.
I also moderated “The Pen is Mightier,” a forum of The Martini-Lounge message board. There, I worked to engage female writers in conversations about past and present writing trends, tips and advice about writing all genres, and their own writing. I encouraged writers to share their own works, and also hold special “theme” writing contests.
The Martini-Lounge abruptly ended its four-year run in 2006, when our president seemingly vanished into thin air, allowed the site to expire, and left many talented writers and web designers, as well a great number of active message board members, completely bewildered.
However, I do have writing samples from my time at Martini-Lounge. Feel free to request them.
